The Tiny Leaf’s Big Job
On a bright, sunny morning, a tiny green leaf woke up on the branch of a tall tree. His name was Leo, and he was excited because today was a perfect day for his special job—making food for the tree!
Leo stretched in the warm sunlight. “Time to get to work!” he said happily.
“How do you make food?” asked a curious little ladybird sitting nearby.
Leo smiled. “It’s called photosynthesis! Want to watch?”
The ladybird nodded eagerly.
Leo took a deep breath. “First, I soak up the sunlight,” he explained. As he did, he felt the warm energy fill him up.
“Then, I take in air through tiny holes in my skin,” Leo continued. “The air has something called carbon dioxide, which the tree needs.”
The ladybird listened carefully. “What else do you need?”
“Water!” Leo said. “The tree’s roots suck up water from the ground and send it up through the trunk and branches all the way to me.”
“Wow!” said the ladybird “And then what happens?”
Leo grinned. “I mix the sunlight, air, and water inside me, like a little kitchen. Then—ta-da!—I make food for the tree to grow big and strong!”
“That’s amazing!” the ladybird said. “And what about me? Do I get anything from photosynthesis?”
Leo laughed. “Of course! While I make food, I also release fresh oxygen into the air. That’s the air you breathe!”
The ladybird took a deep breath. “Thank you, Leo! You and all the other leaves are so important!”
Leo swayed happily in the breeze. “It’s my job, and I love it!”
As the sun continued to shine, Leo and his leaf friends worked hard, making food for the tree and fresh air for the world. And the tiny ladybird flew off, ready to share Leo’s amazing secret with all her friends.
The End.
